Biography and Interests
For more than 20 years, Vilma Ortiz has studied the socioeconomic experiences of Latinos in the U.S., focusing both on specific Latino groups, as well as comparative studies with other racial/ethnic groups. Her most recent book is Generations of Exclusion: Mexican Americans, Assimilation, and Race (co-authored with Edward Telles, Russell Sage Foundation Publications, 2008). She is also co-author of Challenging Fronteras: Structuring Latina and Latino Lives in the U.S. (Routledge, 1997).
